January 2012

The Fieldhead Regeneration project at Birstall in Kirkless, West Yorkshire was recently completed and a 3D fly-through showing the project can be found here.

Latchways the world leaders in fall protection and the manufacturers of the ManSafe range of products for working at height have appointed Michael Hyde and Associates to design their new warehouse and office building on their site in Devizes, Wiltshire.

Planning Permission granted for new 55 bed student accommodation at Harper Adams University College. It is hoped to commence construction of this £1.6m project in Spring 2012, with an ambitious target for delivery by the start of the new academic year in September 2012.

December 2011

Karl Brown, based at our Sheffield office, has passed his professional practice exams.

The recently completed Oswestry Leisure Centre was officially opened by HRH the Duke of Gloucester on Thursday 1st December; His Royal Highness was taken on a tour of the new facility by director Tom Green.

November 2011

Staff from both offices recently took part in a company 'away day' which provided a chance to visit the completed Oswestry Leisure Centre as well as the opportunity for some team bonding.

Altrincham Grammar School Food Technology and Art Room completed.

Oswestry Leisure Centre is now complete and will open to the public on 1st October, a formal opening ceremony will follow later in the year.

MHA continue their relationship with Harper Adams University with the commission to develop proposals for a new block of student accommodation within the college campus.

Planning permission granted for conversion and alteration of an existing building in Chorlton, South Manchester for Symphony Housing Group. The project will see the existing 39 bedsits and 10 one bedroom apartments converted to a mix of one and two bedroom apartments. It includes alterations to internal layouts and elevations, including new entrance lobby with canopy and external works and landscaping.

August 2011

An event has been held to mark the completion of the £2.4 million redevelopment of Rossendale Hall in Sutton, Macclesfield. The new development provides space for 32 tenants in groups of 4, replacing the communal accommodation in the older part of Rossendale Hall giving residents a more independent lifestyle.

Planning application submitted to Cheshire West and Cheshire Council for the Northgate Avenue 131 unit extra care housing scheme on behalf of Arena Housing.

Lidget Lane project completed.

Planning application submitted for 72 bedroom student accommodation scheme at Norfolk Park Student Village, Sheffield.

New Research Facility for NIHR commenced on site at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, with main contractor Laing O'Rourke. Completion anticipated by Summer 2012.

Fieldhead Lane

Fieldhead Retained Flats project completed. To the delight of the residents the retro-fit project has seen 16 blocks of flats given a modern facelift as part of the Fieldhead Estate Regeneration project in Birstall. The brief was to improve safety, security, sense of place and pride in the area, reduce fuel costs and bring the flats to a standard in keeping with the new build and the client has expressed their satisfaction in the final result exceeding their expectations.

MHA recently submitted two entries for the RIBA 'Sheffield Forgotten Spaces' competition, CIQubes and Sheaf Valley Quarter.

John Cambridge, a senior architect based at our Manchester office, has recently completed training to become a 'Code for Sustainable Homes' assessor under the UKAS accredited 'competent persons scheme'. He passed with flying colours.

MHA is now able to:

  • Offer advice on how to achieve the various code levels.
  • Register projects.
  • Coordinate and gather evidence for CfSH assessments.
  • Undertake CfSH assessments at design stage.
  • Undertake CfSH assessments at post-construction stage.
  • Produce and issue CfSH reports.

We will now offer this service on our own housing projects and on those designed by others, please contact us for further details.

John is considering extending his expertise further to include BREEAM assessment in the near future.

The Michael Hyde and Associates designed £4.5million Faccenda Centre was officially opened on Tuesday, 22 March 2011. The development provides a 'One Stop Shop' where students can access a large variety of services and find out answers to queries at the Shropshire-based University College.

Speaking about the building General Estates Manager, Paul Moran, said: "The Faccenda Centre is a beautiful building and a lot of time went into its design to ensure that it was not only aesthetically pleasing but is also functional and uses sustainable materials and technology''. The new building has already been assessed by Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) and was given a rating of 'excellent'.

The building has been named 'The Faccenda Centre' after one of the largest chicken processing companies in the UK, owned by Robin Faccenda who gained a National Diploma in Poultry at Harper Adams in 1961 and made a generous funding donation towards the project.
