Rossendale Hall was 'High Commended' in the Best Social or Affordable Housing Development category at the recent LABC North West Building awards.

Michael Hyde and Associates Ltd. are pleased to announce that Hannah Chadwick of the Manchester office has recently joined the RIBA Conservation Register as a 'Conservation Registrant'. The register enables those looking to commission work on heritage buildings to find architects with the specific skills and experience they require, encompassing all aspects of historic building conservation, repair and maintenance.

Patrick Burke of the Sheffield office has recently joined the Association for Project Safety at 'Associate' level in recognition of his work as CDM Coordinator. The Association acknowledges the competency required within the Approved Code of Practice to assist and guide clients in respect of construction health and safety matters. Facilitating good communication between everyone involved in construction projects to manage and reduce the risks to both workers and end users.

Refurbishment and extension works for YESSS Electrical Headquarters at Normanton, Wakefield completed.

Works to refurbish Steven Court in Chorlton have completed. This five storey block of flats has been re-configured internally alongside a rejuvenation of the external appearance.

Michael Hyde and Associates are delighted to be sponsoring Altrincham Grammar School for Boysduring their centenary year celebrations. Director Tom Green is a former pupil of the school and has maintained his relationship with them over the years through several design projects, including the award winning The Grammar and the new Physics centre, which is currently on site.

MHA Approved by NHS
Michael Hyde and Associates have been approved by the North West Consortium of NHS Trusts for retention on their Approved List of Consultants, following a successful 5-yearly scheduled review. MHA are listed under Architectural Services, Feasibility Studies and as Project Managers. The review process included a rigorous appraisal of our performance and client satisfaction, and we would like to thank all those valued clients who took the time to participate in this exercise.

Michael Hyde and Associates' project for the transformation of the flats on the Fieldhead Estate in Kirklees has been shortlisted in the Housing Innovation Awards 'Most Innovative Refurbishment Project' category. The winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony which will take place on the 13th February in London.

December 2012

Successful external assessment affirms that MHA continue to meet the Investors in People standard.

The Northgate Chester Extra Care scheme has been officially named Abbot's Wood; the official sod cutting ceremony took place on site on Monday 3rd with representatives from Your Housing Group, Cheshire West and Chester Council, the contractor and consultants.

Demolition work for the proposed new teaching building at Harper Adams University College has started; construction of the building itself will begin in the new year.

Work has started on the new Physics Centre at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys; the building is due to be completed in May 2013.

Clive Anderton was elected as President of the Manchester Society of Architects Golf Union at last month's AGM held at Stockport Golf Club.

October 2012

The new Hall of Residence recently completed at Harper Adams University College was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal on Monday 29th October.

MHA staff have recently shown their commitment to good causes as staff in both offices took part in 'Genes for Jeans' day, which was organised by Amanda Village, to help raise money for children with genetic disorders. Additionally Alice Darrington, also from our Sheffield office, took part in the Budapest Marathon and raised £347 for Cancer Research UK.

Michael Hyde and Associates (MHA) have cemented their reputation as one of the leading firms for the design of community and leisure buildings after their design for Oswestry Leisure Centre, Shropshire, was "Highly Commended" at the annual SCALA Civic Building of the Year Award.

The £13.5m extra care scheme at Northgate Avenue, Chester has started on site and archaeological digs are currently being undertaken.

New Hall of Residence completed at Harper Adams University College. The scheme includes 53 en-suite study bedrooms arranged in cluster-flats each with shared kitchen / dining facilities, and a 2-bedroomed warden's flat, and associated car park and external works. The construction value was approx £1.5m, and the build was completed in around 7½ months, in time for the start of the new academic year. This takes the number of study bedrooms successfully delivered by MHA on the university college campus to over 250, across 3 projects since 2006.

September 2012

Full planning approval has been gained for the proposed new food store at New Street, Barnsley. The approximately 120 000sqft (11 150sqm) store will create a link between the town centre, redeveloped markets and residential areas which surround the site by providing a flagship development which attracts people back to the town centre.

MHA's latest project for Harper Adams University College has been submitted for planning approval; an exciting new £2m teaching building which links to our previous successful Post Graduate Centre and award-winning West Midlands Regional Food Academy projects. The proposed new teaching building includes a 250 person lecture theatre, seminar rooms, IT facilities and open access learning commons area. The design draws inspiration from the history of the site and acknowledges local context.

Jodi McLeod, who recently came first in the architecture section of the TATA steel student awards 2011/2012 has just joined MHA in our Manchester office. Jodi's winning project was Fluid Transitions a design for a medium sized airport in Lydd, in the South East of England. The project set to create a balance between user experience and security controls creating a model for future air travel.

August 2012

Planning approval has been gained for a new Physics Centre for Altrincham Grammar School for boys. The scheme comprises four science labs and ancillary accommodation in a two storey contemporary designed building. MHA were instrumental in helping to gaining funding for the scheme through a bid to the DfE Academy fund. Work is anticipated to start in October with completion by March 2013.

With assistance from MHA Altrincham Grammar School for Boys has been successful in their bid for grant funding for a new Physics Department building. The new building is due for completion in March 2013.

It's all Systems GO for Pendleton!

Michael Hyde and Associates are pleased to announce that we are part of a consortium which has been named by Salford City Council as the preferred partner for a 30 year contract to help create a New Pendleton.

The consortium led by the Together Housing Group will be responsible for:

  • building 1,600 new homes
  • modernising more than 1,200 homes
  • provision of excellent housing management services
  • and creating 500 new jobs and 2,000 work experience opportunities.

Chevin Housing Association Ltd (a member of the Together Housing Group) has led the consortium who was recommended as the winning bidder following a rigorous four year competitive process

Together Housing Group is now looking forward to completing the final stage and is gearing up to close the deal prior to the work commencing later in the year. The exciting new partnership for Pendleton including Salford City Council, the Together Housing Group and Salix Homes will make sure that these fantastic propositions for Pendleton are delivered well.

Construction of an exciting new MHA designed £1.8m clinical research unit has been completed for the National Institute for Health Research and University Hospitals of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust by Laing O'Rourke at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester. The project represents a significant extension to the Medicines Evaluation Unit's Langley Building, which was delivered by Michael Hyde and Associates in 2007. The extension is designed to blend in seamlessly with the existing building.
