Students get top marks and some top tips
Senior Architect, Chris Yorke and Business Development Manager, Hilary Garrett spent a busy day at Leeds Beckett University interviewing a number of students taking part in the Building My Skills programme, run by Esh Construction. The aim of the day was to give the students interview experience and for them to gain valuable feedback on their performance.
Building My Skills is a year long employability skills programme which provides students with a rounded introduction to the world of work through regular, timetabled business engagement sessions as part of the curriculum.
The programme, which is delivered free to all schools has received a number of awards including winning Business in the Community’s National Big Tick for Education Partnerships and the Civil Engineering Contractors Association Inspiring Education Award.
Chris and Hilary had previously delivered a session to students providing insight into their potential career pathways. Students receive 5 employability guidance sessions under the programme, and students attending all 5 sessions are offered a place at the regional mock interview day.
Hilary Garrett said, “Chris and I were very impressed by the calibre of the students. They had prepared well for the interviews and were a credit to their schools. I think they will have a bright future ahead of them and we wish them every success.’
