End of Year show displays talent for Manchester Gin
Architectural Assistant, Jessica Corns and her team showcased their talent at the latest Manchester School of Architecture Year End Show. The brief was to provide the Client, Manchester Gin, with a usable building that would allow space for future expansion, draw interest to the street and give something back to the public realm, whilst protecting and celebrating the qualities of the existing arches.
Jessica commented. "As an atelier we were encouraged to utilise Stan Allen’s field theory when designing, we applied this internally in our arrangement of spaces, and externally to the organisation and landscaping of the streetscape. Working through the programmatic requirements of our Client we observed that the natural light necessary for some uses were dramatically higher than others, so we derived a field from natural light studies of the site and used this to drive our architectural form. This resulted in a glazed diagrid structure that connected spaces across both levels, leaving the Grade II listed arches visible but untouched."
